Ombre Round 2

Greetings, bloggers!

I recently got my hair done again at a different salon, and I am so happy with it!

I got a great recommendation to go to Number 9 Salon in St. Pete. The stylist there most definitely knew her stuff. I finally got the ombre highlights I wanted.

They are natural looking, with just the right amount of blonde. I’ve found my new salon and stylist!

I have been pinning more than blogging as of late, in case you were wondering where I have been. Yes, I have become a Pinterest addict. It got me. Seems to get everyone eventually.

Something that I have been obsessed with recently is hot new nail colors for summer. My favorites right now are Tart Deco and A Crewed Interest by Essie.

I wore these two colors to a wedding, where my boyfriend was a groomsman. It was a beautiful ceremony with black, ivory and purple colors.

[Only mobile phone quality photos were taken, sorry!]

I can’t really come up with a name for the color of my dress – almost a burnt orange/coral color? (Hard to tell with this picture too.) I wore gold accessories and nude colored sandals. I figured I should have somewhat of a tan to rock the gold accents. In my attempt for a bronzed look, I used Jergens Natural Glow & Protect, which smelled pretty good and actually worked really well!
I like the fact that it has SPF in it too. Has anyone else tried a gradual tanner that they loved? Or hated? What are your favorite color trends for summer? Let me know your thoughts!

Spring Style – Half Sheer Skirt

Hello, hello! So much has been going on lately and I don’t know where to begin. Let’s see… There is a movie being filmed in my area called Spring Breakers starring Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and….James Franco. Really. In my hometown! They have been filming on St. Pete Beach, which just so happens to be where I work. The movie has everyone all in a flutter and everyone trying to be extras. What are the odds that my celeb crush is filming a movie here?! They just filmed a major pool party scene at a hotel near my work which is also the same hotel that my family has had a timeshare at for years. Kind of funny. The stars have been seen around town, even Selena with Justin. My boyfriend has been making fun of me for following the filming online via Twitter. How often is a major movie filmed in your town though? (if you don’t live in LA or NYC, etc.)

Check out this picture uploaded on Ashley Benson’s Instagram account:
The movie description on IMDB is “Four college girls who land in jail after robbing a restaurant in order to fund their spring break vacation find themselves bailed out by a drug and arms dealer who wants them to do some dirty work.” Pretty different from Selena’s other roles, I would say.

Onto other things more relevant to my life…
I am looking to buy a house, so I’ve been house hunting lately and hopefully will find something perfect for me, my boyfriend and my two cats and his husky. I can’t wait to have a home of my own, so I am trying to be patient. 🙂 I also just started doing yoga which has been great for my posture and well-being. Meditation has really helped ease my mind and I am loving it.

I hadn’t been shopping in while but I had been seeing these half sheer skirts everywhere and found this bar III one at Macy’s that I fell in love with.

 It is so comfy!

Metallic Gold Wedges: INC from Macy’s, Half Sheer Skirt: bar III from Macy’s, Vest: Forever 21

I’ve also seen some other cute ones that are a lot more dressy with lace and such. What are your thoughts on these skirts? Boho-chic? Too long for your taste? At least my long legs are good for some sort of style for once.

Balayage/Ombre

I’ve had a busy couple of weeks! I started a new job that I absolutely love as a marketing assistant. I’m so excited for the journey I have started in a career that I am passionate about. A few weeks ago, I decided that I wanted to do something different with my hair. I wanted to go more natural and I kept seeing this style everywhere, although I did not know what it was called. Now, after some research, I know that it is balayage, or ombre, highlights. They are highlights that start off darker, then fade into a lighter color, giving you a more natural look. It also saves you money because you don’t have to go get your roots done as often! Okay – apparently I am REALLY late on this trend!

I picked out a few photos that I wanted to base the look of off. I showed it to my hairdresser, and she said she’d try it out although she had never done them before.

Well, instead of looking more natural, she tried to do a brown color on top, with blonde underneath. The brown looks red, really.

I don’t hate it, but it is definitely not what I was expecting. I’d like it to be more like my natural color on top, which is an ashy dirty blonde.

[Found on Pinterest, this is the closest to how I would have wanted the highlights to look]

I also was too afraid to go with a middle part, because I have pretty thin hair. What do you guys think? Balayage highlights, or not? Do you think that it is necessary to have long hair and a middle part to pull off this look? Should I try to get it redone eventually, or just do regular highlights?

Scarves & Cardis

On one of my trips to H&M with my Christmas gift cards, I purchased some cardigans and a scarf. Well, now I definitely wish I bought more than one scarf. I fell in love with it. I don’t know if it is because I live in Florida that I am just catching onto this trend, or what. We’ve had a few cold fronts lately that I most certainly have not been prepared for. It has been in the 40s and a little over a week ago it got down to the 30s.

I love this floral one because it has a few colors to match with it. It was only about $7 at H&M. I definitely plan on purchasing a few more. I’m thinking some bright colors and maybe a funky print and a basic one.
With my winter wardrobe lacking, I don’t have too many winter boots. These are a great pair of brown leather Steve Maddens that are cute and surprisingly comfy. The grey cardigan is from H&M, as well as the jeans.

I actually turned this scarf into an infinity to make it easier to wrap around and stay. I tied both ends in a knot and wrapped it up. I got the idea from this amazing video that has 25 ways to tie a scarf…who knew!

Do you guys have a favorite scarf?

The Holidays & 2012

Hello everyone! I am here, I am here! I have been slacking on my blog posting lately, which is no good! I started some new jobs and with that and family in town things have been crazy lately. Oh, and I got into minor a car accident (the day before Christmas Eve) and have had to deal with the stubborn insurance companies and finding transportation. Luckily I was not at fault, but boy has it been a hassle. Since I have been absent through the holidays, I’ll give a little update on what I received from my awesome family and boyfriend.

[Rob and I with my mom’s dog, the infamous Otto.]

[My adorable 2-year-old nephew, Viktor, and the Grinch]

I received a year gym membership from my mother, which I am so happy about! I can now have my boyfriend be my personal trainer, feel healthy and get back into shape again! Rob got me a beautiful sterling silver heart necklace. I also got a bunch of H&M gift cards and a Sephora gift card. (Hello, shopping sprees!) I really couldn’t be happier. With my budget, I did my best getting all of my loved ones the best presents I could. I printed some photos I had taken over the year, and put together some jarred goodies. Hopefully by next year I can amp up the gift giving myself.

I began going to the gym immediately and my entire body has been extremely sore for the past week, but it feels so great. I missed feeling sore!

For New Year’s Eve, Rob and I decided to have a quiet night in. We went out to eat and had some drinks at home. I wore a new outfit I got from H&M, which was both simple and edgy.

[Everything is from H&M besides the stockings and boots.]

I can’t wait to get back to reading all of your lovely blog posts and get to commenting! Hope you all had a safe and happy New Year! I look forward to 2012 and can’t wait to make it great!

Thanks to all of my top commenters of the year. I love you guys, and your blogs!

Shoe Dreams & Confessions

I have a confession to make. I love shoes. I love high heels, pumps, booties, flats and bedazzled gladiator sandals.

Okay, now that that is on the table – my second ridiculous confession. I love heels, yet I don’t wear them. It is hard to not come off sounding super materialistic as I write this. Well hey, it’s a fashion blog. It’s true though.

I’m fairly tall as it is (just over 5’7). I love looking at heels in awe at the store or online. If I actually get the gusto to purchase the pair, I’ll only end up wearing them on special occasion. Even then I usually feel awkward wearing them. I’d end up wearing a pair out with my girlfriends at a bar, then find that I’m towering over all of my friends, and most of the guys. My other confession being that I have a tendency to like shorter men. (Sorry babe, had to call you out for the sake of this post.) Apparently I’m drawn to short, petite women too, because most all of my girlfriends are around 5’3-4 or so and they wear heels just to feel normal next to me, who quickly becomes the amazon woman when wearing a pair of pumps.

Does anyone else have this issue? I know most girls feel more confident and empowered when they slip on a pair, which I usually do at first. Then that quickly fades away when I find that I’m looking down on people as I talk to them. I’m not even that tall! My mother is 5’9 and my father is 6 ft, so I could have been even taller. Don’t get me wrong, I really couldn’t care less what people think of me dating a shorter guy. It’s when I wear heels and it becomes more pronounced and suddenly there’s an elephant in the room (or so I think). It’s not even just that. I could get over that. But my feet could also be compared to Big Foot. I wear a size 9, and my feet are very WIDE. So, even if I find a pair of heels I’m absolutely in love with so much that I don’t care about where I wear them or who I wear them around, they usually don’t fit in the first place. Then, I have the issue of where to wear the shoes. What occasion is appropriate? A date? A party? The bar?

So yes, I usually end up with heels that sit in my closet that I look at and think how beautiful they are. Stupid? Maybe. I like to think of them more as a work of art. I may not rock them as other girls would so well, but I know I can at least admire the print, the quality, and the construction of it.

One particular pair of shoes that I have been coveting so much lately that I had a DREAM about them is this pair of 6 inch wedge booties, Pauline by Shoemint (new website with a collaborative collection by Rachel Bilson, Nicole Chavez and Steve Madden). (Of course, they’re currently sold out.)

*Drools*

6 INCHES! Okay, then I’d definitely feel like an amazon woman. But they are GORGEOUS. I love the color. The suede. The wedge. The corset stitching in the back. Ugh. I even get $25 off my first pair. They’d be perfect to wear for the holidays (Or is 6 in too inappropriate? Probably.) My boyfriend also thinks they are ugly. Which immediately makes me think of ManRepller.com. I may be living in lala land. But, my question for you, readers, is it worth it to purchase a pair that I think are absolutely fantastic, or just print out a picture and hang it on the wall?

Am I crazy, or does anyone else have this problem? I need your help fashion bloggers!

Kudos to you if you read my long post! xoxox

Have mercy on your feet!

Okay, we don’t all like to talk about feet unless it’s about shoes.

Have you ever shopped for an expensive pair of designer shoes, you try them on and they fit great. You buy them, and then go home to change into them. You leave the house and after about an hour of wearing them, you feel it.

It’s the one spot where it’s rubbing your foot raw. You didn’t bring an extra pair of shoes. Uh oh. I’ve had this happen plenty of times. Whether it’s a blister on your bunion or a mark on your heel, it ruins the joyous new-shoes state you’re supposed to be relishing in.

Dr. Scholl’s For Her Rub Relief Strips are amazing. I was skeptical that they would work at first. After wearing a new pair of Coach leather flats that made my feet blister so badly they bled (gross, but true!), it made them feel so much better. After I healed, of course. The best thing about the strips is that you can size them up however you want. It comes out of the dispenser, you press a button and it cuts the piece to your fit. You can put it anywhere you are feeling extra pressure in your shoe.  So don’t give up hope on those problem shoes just yet. If there have been some gorgeous shoes sitting in your closet because they don’t fit right, give these a whirl.

Versace for H&M: Gorgeous, but too good for everyday women?

After drooling over the H&M website last night, I am a little disappointed. I searched through all of the different designs of dresses, jackets, tops, vests, etc. and swooned over this leather jacket.

Versace for H&M, $299

If you’re a fan of my Facebook page, Phoebe’s Fab Fix, then you may have seen my post about it. But this morning as I’m scrolling through my Twitter feed, I came across this Huffington Post article.

“Donatella will likely not approve shooting the collection on real women.”
H&M publicist

The NY Daily News was supposed to have a shoot featuring three models, all of which are young New Yorkers. Only 1 of the 3 models got the approval. The shoot was cancelled and now the article will feature the three models in holiday cocktail attire.

The problem is, Donatella Versace specifically stated that the H&M Versace line was for the H&M consumer (likely, young, real women). Why can’t they model it? It makes me rethink whether or not I should purchase any pieces from this line. Versace is a high end fashion house, but H&M lines are supposed to make it so that something so high end can become a reality to others.

What are your thoughts?

Also, Tom Ford is rumored to be the next designer for H&M.

Woolite can do wonders

Since I have been putting my professional wardrobe to use lately, I have encountered the debatable, self question of, “How many times can I wear this before I need to make a trip to the dry cleaners?” Don’t lie. You know you’ve thought the same thing.

It was then that I realized there must be another option. Woolite Dry Cleaner’s Secret does the trick. With one cloth it “cleans, deodorizes and relaxes wrinkles in just 20 minutes.” (According to the box.) Which I found, it most certainly does.

This simple product saves you a ton of money and time. Your blazers, slacks, and delicates come out smelling fresh and feeling clean. Hang them up right away if you’re attempting to avoid ironing. This is the only downside of not making the trip to the cleaners. If it is your designer, beaded evening gown though, you may want to make that trip.

(A box of 6 cloths is about $8 and cleans up to 24 garments)

Baby at the Barn

With the weather getting a little cooler here in Florida, my mother has been begging me and the rest of the family to come out to the barn and see her horse. She has a beautiful, tall, American Saddlebred named Starbucks. My nephew, Viktor, just turned two and we thought it would be a great experience for him to come out to the barn and see all kinds of critters. He got to see the “horsies” and the “moo-moos” just as planned.

The thing that I find fascinating is that Viktor is becoming a bilingual baby. His mother, my step-sister-in-law, (that’s a mouthful!) Stefanie is from Hanover, Germany. She speaks to him in German and my stepbrother speaks to him in English. I am envious at this fact as I have always wanted to learn another language, and for him to grow up knowing two already is a gift!

He has entered his terrible-twos and when he gets excited he has a tendency to start biting. Stefanie had to start yelling “Nicht beissen, Viktor!” to him repeatedly, (no biting) and now he tells my stepfather “Nicht beissen, GraGra” (his version of Grandpa) when he is trying to behave himself in order to receive what he wants.
